  • What are areas in Malaysia which overseas investors tend to be interested in?

Judging from the new property launch data and volume of transaction data provided by our National Property Information Centre (NAPIC), a Malaysian government property statistics database, the three popular areas where investors are more likely to invest are Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru. More information is available at http://napic.jpph.gov.my/portal.

Why? The vibrancy, vast city development and exposure to the international market in these three cities are the main reason. We will have these three cities in reference to China.

First, Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia, like Beijing, where the majority of the MNCs are at and the main centre for international business.
Secondly, Johor Bahru, which is the second largest city in Malaysia, and only a 30 minutes’ drive across the bridge from Singapore, a bit like Shen Zhen to Hong Kong.

Lastly, Penang is a little bit like Hang Zhou, it is a cultured and touristy northern island city of Malaysia, with plenty of sightseeing and international travel exposure, a place where foreign investors will look into, too.
